A Study on the Current Status of Optometry Education in China

Abstract
Purpose : This study investigated and analyzed the current status of the optometry educational system in China. Also, tried to examine the problems of Chinese optometry education.

Methods : The optometry-related information about China was collected from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Optometric and Optical Association (COOA), the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Baidu, and Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), respectively.

Results : In accordance with the educational system in China, the optometrist was produced at secondary vocational schools (3 year), colleges (3 year), general universities (4 year), medical universities (5 year), and short-term vocational training skill institutes, respectively. Also, total credits (teaching hours) were 152 points (3,120 hours) for secondary vocational schools, 154 points (2,800 hours) for junior colleges, 205.5 points (3,795 hours) for North Sichuan Medical College, 166 points (2,730 hours) for Shandong First Medical University, and 297 points (3,786 hours) for Nanjing Medical University 297 (3,786 hr), 230.5 points (3,249 hours) for Wenzhou Medical University.

Conclusion : The current status and education system of optometry in China were investigated, and it was found that the systematic management of education and the method of evaluating the performance of manpower is still incomplete, so it is necessary to improve these problems for the future.
